World famous for its stunning scenery, the Dartmoor National Park is best known for its rocky outcrops, woodlands and wild open stretches of moorland. With over 200 grantite 'tors' to visit you are spoilt for choice. Especially popular is Hound Tor at Grimspound - the setting for Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Hound of the Baskervilles'.

Don't miss a visit to 'Bowerman's nose'. According to the legend of Bowerman the Hunter, a friendly giant named Bowerman liked to go hunting with his huge pack of hounds across the area of Hayne Down. Unfortunately for him a group of witches lived here and forbade him to cross their land; he ignored their warnings and was instantly turned to stone forever to stand and watch over the Down. The scattered stones and boulders surrounding this site are his hounds that also befell the fate of their master. The Two Bridges Hotel is an ideal base from which to visit Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake, Widecombe-in-the-Moor of 'Uncle Tom Cobley' fame, Becky Falls, Buckfast Abbey, a working Benedictine Monastery, the infamous Dartmoor prison. No visit to the area would be complete without a trip to Plymouth, the commercial centre of West Devon. You must see the Hoe where Drake first sighted the Spanish Armada whilst he played bowls and visit 'the steps' where the Mayflower sailed for America with the pilgrim fathers. Within easy reach of the hotel are the coastal resorts of South Devon.Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are famous for their exotic plants as well as clean sandy beaches. Further along the coast is the South Devon 'Hams' comprising of the picturesque towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Salcombe and Kingsbridge.
