Dartmoor Hotel partners up with Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust
The popular Two Bridges Hotel in the heart of Dartmoor National Park has adopted two-year-old Puddy (Dunstone Pudsham), a traditional Moorland pony precious to our natural heritage, as part of the Hotel’s ongoing support of registered charity the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT). The initiative is part of the hotel’s activities to celebrate a quarter of a century under the same family ownership.
Puddy will have her first year’s training, feed, grooming kit, and tack provided through the support of the Hotel. Once properly trained, Puddy will be used for the Trust’s ‘Ponies Inspiring People’ education programme, where young people with challenging emotional and behavioural issues, and/or learning difficulties, build important life skills. The programme helps youngsters form bonds and build trust with the ponies, in turn gaining valuable team work and social skills.
Sarah Howard, Two Bridges Hotel director, commented: “We’re delighted to be supporting the valuable work of the DPHT – it was a natural choice as we both have a shared love of all things Dartmoor and truly treasure its iconic landscape and native breeds. The DPHT does fantastic work, and we’re pleased to help promote the charity as part of the Hotel’s 25th anniversary activities which celebrate our beautiful location.”
The Hotel will track Puddy’s progress, with the latest updates added to the Hotel newsletter and website and she will have her own ‘blog’. Guests at the hotel – and its sister hotel, the Bedford at Tavistock – will be able to ‘adopt’ some of the Trust’s other ponies, participate in DPHT events including free guided walks at Bellever near Postbridge, and learn all about the lives of the ponies living on Dartmoor, through the displays that will be set up at each hotel.
Judy Fawcett, Chairman of DPHT commented: “We’re so pleased to be working with the Two Bridges. It’s great to have the support of such a landmark Dartmoor hotel. Moorland ponies are an integral part of the Dartmoor landscape that the Hotel is nestled in, and we want to make sure visitors can enjoy them for years to come.”
The charming, quintessentially English hotel is also hosting a photography competition on Twitter to find and share stunning images of Dartmoor, the best of which will be included in a special Two Bridges Calendar; and two publications to celebrate the anniversary – a recipe booklet by the hotel’s Executive Chef Mike Palmer and a dossier on the history of this long established hotel.
